When it comes to skin care, oftentimes less is more. That seems to be the case with the skin care routine of Indonesian pop music star, Cita Citata. Recently, my friend Meghan E. Farnsworth, had the opportunity to interview Cita on a music story she was writing. And, of course I encouraged her to ask about her skin care routine.
Happy and honored that SkinGab is one of the first American sites to welcome and introduce, Cita. So, without further ado, please check out Meghan’s interview.
What is “Dangdut”? Dangdut is Indonesian pop music that combines the country’s local music traditions with that of India and Malaysia in addition to Western rock. In a sense, it’s modern music for a new decade that, according to Encyclopaedia Britannica, “arose in the mid-20th century from the desire of young musicians in urban Indonesia to develop a distinct pan-Indonesian musical style that was both modern and appealing to all socioeconomic strata.”
With each decade comes a reigning dangdut star, and in 2016, Cita Citata (pronounced Chee-tah Chee-tah-tah) is the genre’s newfound champion. At only 20 years old, she won critical acclaim with her single “Sakitnya Tuh Disini” (The Pain is Here), earning an award for “Most Famous Soap Opera Soundtrack” at the 2014 SCTV Awards (Indonesia’s version of the Emmys) and “New Arrivals Top” from MNCTV Dangdut, Indonesia’s reigning authority on the genre. In 2015, she became the first dangdut singer to receive recognition in the international awards arena and the most searched for celebrity on Google in Indonesia. At one point that same year, the video for her single, “Goyang Dumang” (Shake Dumang), became the second most-watched video on Youtube in Indonesia to Wiz Khalifa’s See You Again featuring Charlie Puth from The Fast and Furious 7.
Her music feels cheery despite the woeful lyrics examining heartbreak (all based on Indonesian memes, mind you). She recently visited New York City as a featured spokesperson with Yonder Music, a digital music streaming service that recently launched in Indonesia, Bangladesh, and Malaysia. As the writer covering her journey throughout the city, I had the chance to ask her a few questions about her beauty regimen.
