It’s time for some bubbly, so pop that cork, and let the champagne flow.

Birkenstock, yes, that Birkenstock company, yup, the German-based shoe company known for its thick cork-soled sandals, is walking into the skincare game.

What prompted this decision? Oh, well, just after 240 years of working with cork, they realized that it is also an amazing and powerful skincare ingredient.

“While we were doing our research regarding a healthy product concept in the skincare segment, we realized that scientists in the cosmetics industry had discovered the highly effective anti-aging effect of suberin, a remarkable substance which is contained in cork oak extract,” Birkenstock’s CEO, Oliver Reichert, told WWD.

Their new skincare line, Birkenstock Natural Care, uses cork oak extract as well as other natural yummies like: argan oil, moringa-seed extract, arctic moss, elderberry, and botanical hyaluronic acid, in its products.

Birkenstock Natural Care has 28 products in its arsenal, including anti-aging and hydration products for the face. They also have products for men and yes, for feet.

Prices range from $17 to $74. Some products are vegan, but all of them are free of paraffins, parabens, silicone, and synthetic scents and dyes.
